Dr Savera Mohangi is Current Head Mpumalanga Department of Health from August 2016.
Dr Savera Mohangi comes to the position with a wealth of experience and an in-depth understanding of the needs and challenges in the health sector. She has a number of qualifications which include MBChB - University of Natal 1996 and B Sc Hons Reproductive Biology - Stellenbosch University 2001(Cum laude), Compulsory rotatory internship at King Edward V111 Hospital, Durban, South Africa in 1997.
Dr Savera Mohangi is a seasoned Health professional who has risen through the ranks of the Health sector having started as Medical Officer at Moroka Hospital, a rural Hospital in the Free State from February 1998 to June 1999, Junior Medical Officer at Rob Ferreira Hospital in July 1999, Promoted to Senior Medical Officer in February 2001, Further promoted to Principal Medical officer in February 2003, In October 2005, was promoted to Chief Medical Officer, In May 2006, appointed as the Acting Medical Manager, In August 2006, appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer , In July 2007, appointed as Senior Medical Manager , In September 2008, was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Rob Ferreira Hospital. She has been involved in the development of key health policies and has a number of successes under her belt. In March 2012, was appointed as the Director: National Health Insurance for Mpumalanga Province, In February 2013, appointed as the Project Manager: Facility Improvement for Mpumalanga Hospital. (appointed by National Department of Health), In July 2013, appointed as the Acting Head of Mpumalanga Department of Health, In June 2015, was permanently absorbed into the Mpumalanga Department of Health as the DDG- National Health Insurance and from 13 August 2015 appointed as the Acting Head of Mpumalanga Department of Health until her appointment as Superintendent General of Mpumalanga Department of Health from August 2016. In 2010 Dr Savera was Part of the FIFA 2010 Steering Committee in the province and ensured that Rob Ferreira Hospital was well prepared as the first response public hospital in the province. In 2014, Dr Mohangi played a key role in Operation Phakisa 2.Currently is deployed as a member of the Provincial Legislature in Mpumalanga as MEC of the Department of Health.
